A Community of Practice Workshop

Learn inclusive art strategies to create a successful environment for your classroom

VSA Michigan will host a Community of Practice workshop August 20-22, at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center on Higgins Lake.  This professional development opportunity is available to educators, teaching artists and community arts education providers wishing to gain new and unique strategies for their practice.

The workshop will begin with lunch at Noon on Sunday, August 20 and conclude at 1:30 on Tuesday, August 22.  Workshops will be conducted by experienced VSA Michigan teaching artists and educators who have special expertise on successful teaching of students with behavioral issues, autism, cognitive and physical disabilities.  Come to the workshop prepared to move, paint, act and sing.  No previous training necessary.  Just pretend you are a learner in a special education classroom and discover creativity and abilities that you have never known that you have.

The Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center is a DNR facility located in the woods and at the shore of beautiful, pristine Higgins Laker in Roscommon.  Accommodations are in lodges with double occupancy rooms, shared bathrooms, and meeting spaces.  Blankets and pillows, sheets and towels are provided.  Bring a robe and slippers, bathing suit and hiking boots (if you would like to check out the hiking paths through the woods).  Meals are provided family style in the dining room or lakeside.
